Holly Burt
Holly Burt has been practicing in the area of orthopedics and women’s health physical therapy for 12 years. She is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist through the APTA with pelvic floor rehabilitation training from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. Her pelvic health training focused on treating pelvic floor dysfunction and related issues in the pelvis, hip, and spine. Holly’s pelvic floor treatments include an assessment of the whole person including movement patterns, ligament structure, current activity level, and pregnancy history. She believes that treating the whole person along with the symptom is the key to complete health and wellness to help her patients achieve their goals. Holly’s approach to women’s health is unique as she combines her orthopedic knowledge with her pelvic floor treatment advocating pregnancy, labor, and delivery as an injury requiring significant recovery.
Holly has continued to advance her manual skills with a certification in dry needling through Evidence in Motion as well as additional courses through other the Maitland and McKenzie Institutes. She also is a certified Kinesiotaping practitioner and Vestibular Rehabilitation and Concussion certified through the American Balance Institute. Her additional manual training includes treatment of TMD and cervicogenic headaches through the use of craniosacral therapy and upper cervical manual techniques.
Along with pelvic health, Holly has a strong background in treating performing artists including figure skaters, ballet dancers, Irish dancers, and Broadway performers. She began her career in northern Virginia working backstage with the Washington ballet with Body Dynamics, Inc. Through her work with dancers, she developed a passion for the treatment of the hypermobile patient. She has pursued this passion by instructing a continuing education course on Fibromyalgia and Hypermobility Syndrome to PTs, OTs, and PTAs at Maryland Allegany College and Anne Arundel Community College. Holly continues to work to incorporate evidence on use of aerobic exercise in the treatment of Fibromyalgia patients as well as pelvic stability with hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
Holly received her Bachelor of Science from Wake Forest University in 2006 where she also played club tennis and worked as a student athletic trainer. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University in 2009 with an emphasis in orthopedics. During graduate school, she also worked as a NASM certified personal trainer at the New York Sports Club in midtown Manhattan performing one-on-one training as well as boot camp Central Park sessions.
Holly’s other loves include a passion for medical work in countries with limited resources driving her trips to Honduras and Belize to provide physical therapy in free clinics and in homes within these surrounding communities. She hopes to treat in free clinics in Haiti in the future. Holly is a Raleigh native and currently lives in Five Points with her giant German Shepherd. She is a lifelong horse nerd who also enjoys singing, cycling, and Pilates as well as frequent trips to her happy place, the North Carolina coast
